Settled

Cable modem and TV are working so I consider myself settled in San Diego. This is a good thing since I go to work tomorrow. We’ve uploaded the latest batch of pictures to the gallery and organized things a bit better.

Happy Easter everyone!

1700 Miles and Four Days Later

We’re safely in SD. Not too bad of a trip. We’ve got some pictures of the trip up in the gallery. It was very beautiful with the desert in bloom. And then there was the 19 hour book on tape for the boring bits.

We found a a place for me to crash. It’s an okay apartment close to work so it’ll give me time to check out the city and find a place for the family to live.

So we’re online for a bit here at the hotel. One quick trip to Fry’s to get the desktop onto the hotel wireless network and we’re good to go. Of course in interests of fair time we went to Ikea as well.

More information later on. Tomorrow we do the touristy thing since all the work is done.

Sendoffs

Thanks to my friends for one final weekend get-together last weekend. It was great to just sit around and talk and laugh. I’ll miss you guys.

Thanks to my work friends for the sendoff at Sidpockets Friday night. Fortunately I’ve recovered enough to still get on the road.

This will be my last post from KC. We’re leaving this afternoon. I doubt I’ll be connected on the road so you probably won’t hear from me until end of the week or beginning of next week at the latest. See you around KC, it’s been fun.

Movies!

The Incredibles is out on DVD. This is the best movie of 2004 even if it was done live action or 2d animation. I’ve finished the Brad Bird commentary and about 1/2 way through the animator commentary. It’s interesting to hear them geek out about the differences in doing hand drawn animation versus “pushing” around models. Also. the best line was from Brad Bird who said the next time someone calls animation a genre instead of a method or artform he’s gonna punch them in the face. Finally, the commentary was done before the movie hit theaters so you’ve got some perspectives of some tired people who really like what they did but didn’t know yet how much of a success it became.

Sin City is out in two weeks and TV spots are starting to pop up. Looks like they added some additional color effects to the movie, now it’s not just black and white and red all over. Very jazzed about this film and big props to Robert Rodriguez for sticking to his guns and allowing Frank Miller to take co-directing credits even though he’s a comic book guy and not in the movie business.

Go West Young Man

Well it’s official. I have accepted a new job and turned in my two weeks notice at my old job. On the 21st of this month (two weeks from this post) I’ll be moving to San Diego to start a new part of my life. Been in the midwest for most all my life and been in the KC area for almost 14 years so I’m very excited about the move and the new opportunties.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy — The Official Movie Website

Check out the first triler on the main page, then go grab the theater trailer by clicking on the button at the bottom of the page.

I’ve always been a fan of the comic stylings of Adam’s science fiction work. And now it looks like we’ve got a movie to bring those words to the screen. Maybe not Lord of the Rings, but some great sci-fi and a very funny story.
