Comic-con Approaches!
Evildoers beware! Just (finally) got my registration done for Comic-Con, one of the biggest geek fests in the world. It starts in less than 3 weeks and Lex is coming out to SD to be my wingman. I didn’t do a very good job of documenting the event last year, but this won’t be the first time going so I’ll be a little less stunned by the sheer size of it and more able to focus on some objectives. As always if you hear of any cool swag, toys that’s exclusive to comic-con, let me know and I’ll try to grab some for you. Hopefully the event schedule will be up soon so I can start planning which talks to go to and whom to see.

Weekend recap and link dump
Thanks everyone for coming to KC on Friday for the party. I had a great time seeing everyone and miss you all. Hopefully it won’t be another year before I see you all again.

Things I Forgot About Kansas City
It doesn’t seem like a year since we moved. In that time I forgot how LARGE the city was. San Diego may be the 7th largest city in the US from a population standpoint, but KC is covers more land mass. We were welcomed by a nice thundercloud – which I missed – and a muggy night – which I did not miss. Other things which I’ve been missing and able to enjoy on our trip include
- My in-laws
- Lydia
- Lighting bugs
- Friends and the good / strange thoroughly enjoyable conversations we have
- Melbees restaraunt on Johnson Drive
- My former co-workers
- Highways that aren’t full of bumper-to-bumper traffic

Got Wanged
I’m pretty excited that my site got a mention today by the popular web comic Penny Arcade. Since the comic gets 250,000 or more hits a day when you link from that site to another the influx of traffic sometimes takes the linked site down and has been termed “wanging a server”. Thus the title.
Anyway it looks like Jerry (1/2 of the PA team) has been playing a preview copy of Sword of the Stars (same as I’ve been doing) and he mentions how much he’s enjoying the game and the wiki I run on this server in today’s post. Looks like the server is holding up well so far considering we’re getting 10x the normal daily total traffic and it’s late afternoon. We’ll see what the evening rush hours look like as everyone gets home from North America.

Talking and Walking
On Friday night we went for a walk. A really long walk that involved stopping for coffee before heading home. I miss our walks. Back when we had no yard, Roe was walked nightly. The exercise was good for him – but the conversation was also good for us. Talking without a TV, dirty dishes lingering in the background sizing each other up to fight for your attention is a great way to unwind. It was a nice start a busy weekend. It’s funny how you can spend so much time with the same person, but still enjoy good conversation.
I believe that I think more clearly when moving. Words that get stuck when I am sitting still shake loose when I move about. Long phone conversations are secretly accompanied by me completing laps around the yard, pool or house. The invention of cordless phone resulting in unterthered conversations has made my life so much better. My bluetooth headset is probably one of the best gifts ever (before the camera of course). Although, I’ve found myself in the parking lot at work doing laps on long conference calls since it’s arrival.
Now, if only they could design a light-weight stylish bluetooth earing so I wouldn’t have to dig for my earphone when it rings…

Sword of the Stars Website
You may remember that I’m kind of working with a PC game development team on an upcoming game called Sword of the Stars. It is scheduled for release in August and the official website is now online at http://www.swordofthestars.com . I’ve been writing walkthroughs for the official forum and those are featured on the website.
If you like empire building games like Civilization or Master of Orion and if you like real-time tactical games like Homeworld or Star Fleet Command, then I highly recommend this game. More information at the website or the wiki that I admininster.

Progress on the Picture Project
I’ve managed to get a selective group of 400 more pictures posted
But no clever links to google locations yet. I’m doing all my work catch-up from being gone and getting back into the gym routine. Nine days off of regular workouts and my muscles have forgotten what to do.
